KEESHOND CODES OF ETHICS

Reproduced with the kind permission of
The North of England Keeshond Club & The Keeshond Club

This code of ethics is presented as an informative guide for members, breeders and stud dog owners
of Keeshonden.  The aim of the Club is to further the welfare, interest and improvement of the breed, and to conduct their activities in accordance with this guide.

BreedingEach litter is carefully planned using, to the best of one's knowledge, stock, which is free from hereditary or congenital defect and is of good temperament and quality. Only Mature bitches (preferably after 24 months of age) are bred from, and that no bitch should be bred in any way deleterious to her and her breed, and normally not more than every other season.
Likewise, stud dog owners should carefully check the suitability of prospective mates
and matings.

Health All stock to be kept under sanitary conditions, fed watered and exercised with appropriate veterinary attention if and when required, and all stock to be inoculated and wormed regularly.RegistrationAll stock should be registered at the earliest opportunity with The Kennel Club, with
documents, pedigrees and comprehensive diet sheets provided to new owners.  Breeders should keep accurate records of matings and pedigrees.

SalesTo ensure suitable homes are likely to be available before breeding and to have the facilities to run on any puppies until such homes become available.  No puppies should leave the breeder until seven weeks of age.  Members will inform those accepting their stock that there is
evidence of certain breed associated conditions in the breed for which no current control schemes are available.  Details of these conditions, as it affects the member's stock, will be made available to prospective purchasers.  No Club member should sell puppies to pet Shops or Commercial dealers and should make available to the novice the benefit of his advice and      experience.  All advertising should be factual and honest.

Breeding TermsBreeding Kennel Club terms and Stud Dog kennel Club Agreements should be clearly
understood and signed by both parties and a copy kept by each.  Breeders should explain to buyers of bitch puppies the advantage of spaying if they do not intend to breed, and the
n
ecessity of protecting unsprayed bitches from unplanned matings.Judging RequirementsIt is agreed all Club members fulfilling judging appointments should submit critiques for

OwnershipEncourage responsible ownership by cleaning up after their dogs in public places, ensuring their dogs wear tagged collars and are under effective control.
